Related imageIn the 1840's, the albumen prints became a popular way to process a photo. They would combine beaten egg whites, salt and potassium iodide to increase the definition of a photograph, such as the one on the left. The paper is then dipped in a solution of silver nitrate and water which makes the surface sensitive to UV light, in which it is dried without UV light.
It creates a glossy finish once the process is finished. Sometimes they would also add gold to stabalize against fading.

Cyanotype is a printing process that creats a blue colored print. It was popular in the 20th century. Well known today is the blueprint that engineers use. It is created using ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. In the end it creats a white and blue photo sych as the one on the left.
